Benton County Sheriff’s deputies took a man identified as Dennis Melchert into custody at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, three hours after a standoff began at a house at 16119 Hickory Dr. east of Rogers near Beaver Lake, authorities said.

Melchert, 50, had been barricaded in the house but came out after a SWAT team fired tear gas into the home, authorities said.

Melchert was booked into the Benton County Jail at 11:21 a.m. Thursday. He faces felony charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threatening. No bond has been set.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the area at about 7:30 a.m. Melchert’s roommate said Melchert had been drinking and acting belligerently, deputies said.
