A call of a gunshot injury turned into an assault investigation Tuesday afternoon in Springdale.

Police and emergency crews responded to a gunshot wound call, although no one was transported to the hospital, according to police and the Springdale Fire Department.

Emergency crews received the gunshot call at 601 Sherman St. at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. An unknown person was thought to be shot in the leg, police and emergency crews said.

Instead of a gunshot victim, police and medical crews found a man who said he was beaten by a pillow case full of glass ashtrays, according to the fire department.

Ambulances and officers returned to their posts after responding to the scene, according to the fire department.

The man at the scene told authorities a group of men beat him, but he did not require hospitalization.

Police are investigating the incident.
