A man was transported to Northwest Medical Center with critical head injuries after a single-car accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 72.
He was later taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, the closest Level 1 trauma center to Northwest Arkansas.
Officials said the man lost control of his red Toyota Tacoma truck going around a curve north of Sugar Creek Road and crashed into a cattle fence. Officials said the truck took out about 100 feet of fence and rolled at least once.
The man was partially ejected from the truck, which landed on the him. Witnesses told fire officials they lifted the truck off the man and pulled him from the wreck.
Pea Ridge and Bentonville Fire departments responded to the accident scene, stabilized the man and transported him to the hospital. He had critical head and body injuries, but his exact condition is unknown.
