A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday for a new sports complex in Rogers.

The Rogers Regional Sports Park brings six new ball fields to Northwest Arkansas.

Rogers Parks Department Director Barney Hayes said the new softball and baseball fields complete with a press box and concession stand will benefit the people in the area.

"The fields were designed in such a way that you can expand the size for adults and then you can also bring in temporary fencing and limit the size,” he said. “All of those sorts of things were part of the planning process."

The park is located off Hudson and Dixieland Roads and will accommodate athletes of all ages. The city will host its annual snowball classic softball tournament on the fields this weekend.

It is part of a much anticipated project that will include two other major expansions to the Rogers Park System.

"This was paid for through the vote of the people and it passed by a 76 percent margin of the popular vote," Hayes said.

City officials are also working on a new aquatics center. The center will have a competition pool, several types of slides, lazy river, and leisure pool with play structures. It's expected to open in May.
