Winter Sickness Forces Eureka Springs Schools To Close
The three public schools in Eureka Springs will be closed through Friday because of illnesses in the district, an official said Wednesday.
A high rate of absenteeism brought on by colds, the flu and general “winter-time illness” prompted the decision to close the schools, said Cathy Martinek, administrative assistant to the superintendent for the Eureka Springs School District. There is no official count on the number of students who have come down with illnesses, she said.
The three schools are Eureka Springs Elementary, Eureka Springs Middle School and Eureka Springs High School. The schools have a combined total of 613 students, Martinek said.
