Samples taken from blood smeared on a wall allowed police to catch up to a robbery suspect almost a year-and-a-half after the crime.

Marquez Beasley, 26, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of residential burglary and theft of property. He was released Thursday from the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.

Police said Beasley broke through the window of a Fayetteville home in order to gain entry in October 2011. The homeowner called police when she returned home and found that a burglary had taken place, according to an arrest warrant affidavit from Washington County Circuit Court.

Officers responded to the scene at 2967 W. Glenmeadow Dr. and discovered blood smeared on the wall and $3,000 in cash missing from the woman’s sock drawer.

Investigators performed a DNA analysis on the blood at the scene and matched it to Beasley last year, but police could not located Beasley until this week.
