The threat of freezing rain has Northwest Arkansas road crews preparing for problems Thursday night into Friday morning.

Workers with the Benton County Road Department began loading trucks with salt and sand right Thursday afternoon. Road department superintendent Jack Brown says 10 trucks will cover more than 1.500 miles of roads.

Eighty workers are on standby in case winter weather hits.

"We've got our salt trucks that were getting ready, the loafers, ready to cover Bentonville, Decatur, Garfield,” he said. “We got salt sheds full about 20 tons of salt ready and be on hand with whatever we are expecting tonight."

Even though temperatures have been above freezing for most of the day, Brown said roads can still get slick with just a little bit of moisture.
