The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the entire area for the threat of severe storms this afternoon.

Warm temperatures have arrived in the area with morning lows well above the average high temperature. Along with the warm temperatures, humid air continues to stream in from the Gulf of Mexico. This warm and humid air will set the stage for severe weather this afternoon. dews

Higher in the atmosphere we are tracking a trough and embedded energy that will lift the warm and humid air late morning into the afternoon, forming strong to severe storms. 500 energy

Winter-time severe weather is usually a different set-up than what we see during the spring. That will be the case with the severe weather on Tuesday. Instability will not be high like spring severe weather, but wind shear will be much higher and that could lead to brief spin-up tornadoes along the leading edge of the line of storms.

The line of strong and severe storms will move into the area after 1 p.m. Damaging winds will be possible within any storm in the line, but we will closely follow the threat of brief, spin-up tornadoes along the leading edge of the line of storms. nam4
