Tuesday the homeless throughout the nation were counted throughout the nation and here locally.

Five teams with the Old Fort Homeless Coalition have been busy since midnight surveying those without homes. The Salvation Army in Fort Smith was just one of the agencies set up during the annual count.

Marshall Sharpe with the Old Fore Homeless Coalition says their long lang gaol is to get the homeless get jobs and a place to live.

“We’re working toward getting the River View Hope Campus established, Sharpe said. “A lot of these people, we hope, get into that area when we get more funding available, hopefully sometime this year.”

Sharpe says this year’s biggest problem has been unemployment, which now includes a younger homeless population and more families.
