An elderly man and woman were hospitalized Monday in Fort Smith with non-life-threatening injuries after their vehicle struck a tree and flipped on its side, police said.

Emergency workers removed both people from the driver’s side window.

The accident occurred about 9:15 a.m. on the 3200 block of South 96th Street.

An eyewitness told police the vehicle was going slowly, then veered to the left. The vehicle hit the curb and accelerated into the tree, according to the eyewitness account.
