A 13-year-old was arrested on an aggravated robbery charge Tuesday after Gentry police say he tried to hold up a gas station.

The boy walked into the Phillips 66 Station at the corner of Highway 59 and Highway 12 in Gentry just before 5:30 p.m., according to police.

He pointed handgun at the clerk and demanded cigarettes, the report states. The suspect took other items from the store and ran off, police said.

Officers were quickly dispatched to the scene and after a short foot pursuit; the teen was taken into custody. Officers found a loaded 22-caliber pistol and stolen goods on the boy, the report states.

Police say at the time of the incident the boy was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and shorts.

Investigators learned the boy stole the gun from his parents’ locked bedroom after breaking into the room using an axe, according to the report.

The teen was booked into the Benton County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated robbery and minor in possession of a handgun.
