A Fayetteville man is in jail after police say he resisted arrest and drunkenly attacked his boyfriend Tuesday.

David North, 31, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic battering, criminal mischief, interfering with emergency communications and resisting arrest. He remained Wednesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

A man called police Tuesday afternoon, saying North, his boyfriend, started assaulting him after becoming intoxicated. North struck the man in the testicles before slapping him, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

North then wrestled the alleged victim to the ground and began choking him, the man told police. North later struck the man across the face, the report states.

North crushed the phone and threw it in the yard when the man attempted to call police, according to the report. The alleged victim left and went to a friend’s house, where he called police.

The suspect later resisted arrest when officers made contact with him, according to the preliminary report.
