5NEWS GRILL: Bacon-Wrapped Sausages & Pizza Dip
Mini Bacon-Wrapped Sausages
14 slices bacon
1 package (1 lb) cocktail-size smoked link sausages (40 sausages)
3/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 TBSP. white vinegar
1/4 tsp. onion salt
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. pepper
-Set oven control to broil. Spray broiler rack and pan with cooking spray.
-Cut each bacon slice crosswise into 3 pieces. Wrap each piece around 1 sausage, securing with toothpick; place on rack in pan.
-Broil with tops about 6 inches from heat 12 to 16 minutes, turning once, until bacon is crisp.
-Meanwhile, in 1 quart saucepan, mix remaining ingredients. Cook over medium heat about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until sugar is dissolved and mixture is bubbly.
-Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 x 13 inch glass baking dish with cooking spray. -Transfer sausages from broiler pan to baking dish.
-Pour sauce over sausages; turn to coat.
-Bake uncovered about 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
TIP: transfer to a crock pot to keep warm.
BONUS RECIPE: Pizza Dip
4 ounces of cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated–divided
1/2 cup fresh Parmesan cheese, grated–divided
1 cup pizza sauce
2 ounces pepperoni, sliced
2 TBSP. green pepper, sliced
2 TBSP. black olives, sliced
-Mix the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise and half the mozzarella and Parmesan together and spread it across the bottom of a pie plate.
-Spread the pizza sauce on top and sprinkle on the remaining cheese, pepperoni, green pepper and olives.
-Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until the cheese has melted, bubbling and golden brown, about 20 minutes or so.
TIP: Serve with pita chips or bread dippers.
