Some hardy folks decided to jump into cold water to raise money for charity.

Thirteen teams took part in the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics on Saturday in Fort Smith. The jumps into the chilly waters at the World Class Fitness pool helped raise more than $13,000 for the Special Olympics.

The teams that participated included students from Van Buren High School and members of the Fort Smith SWAT team. Most of the plungers were in their teens, 20′s or 30′s, but the oldest participant was a 66-year-old man.
