A 44-year-old Van Buren man pleaded guilty to murdering his former lover Wednesday (Feb. 6).
Ronald Cash was scheduled to go on trial for first degree murder Monday, but instead took a deal, according to prosecutor Marc McCune.
He was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the death of Tammy Schlude on Feb. 5, 2012.

Detectives say Cash was arrested at a family member’s house in Fort Smith shortly after shooting Schlude in the Blakemore Field parking lot in Van Buren. Investigators Schlude met Cash at the football field to talk about their relationship.

Cash will not be eligible for parole for at least 24  years, McCune said.
