Police Catch Fake Attorney Accused Of Stealing From Immigrants
Police have caught up to a man suspected of pretending to be an attorney to defraud illegal immigrants out of money.
Anthony Calderon, 51, was arrested Monday on suspicion of theft of property. He was released the same day from the Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Calderon was arrested by the Hope Police Department. He has a Hope address, but Springdale police initiated the investigation against Calderon and sent out a notice to the public against the suspect last week.
Police first began investigating Calderon in November after they received a complaint that he was defrauding non-English-speaking members of the community. Police said victims, who were primarily undocumented immigrants, paid money to Anothony believing he was a licensed attorney.
