Arkansas Sneaks Past Missouri

Hogs overcome four point hole in closing seconds to take down Anderson’s former team.

Mike Anderson admitted earlier this week that Saturday’s game against Missouri will be one of the most difficult games he’s ever coached.

Little did he know it would be just as difficult on the court.

Arkansas overcame a four point deficit in the final minute to knock off Missouri, Anderson’s former team, 73-71 at Bud Walton Arena.

“It was a gut check for our basketball team,” Anderson said. “Missouri is a good team. It was an emotional game and a heck of a ball game. Our guys dug down deep at the end. We did a really good job on defense.”

Marshawn Powell led Arkansas with 24 points on 8-of-19 shooting while BJ Young added 18 points and Coty Clarke finished with 13 for the Hogs. Missouri was led by Keion Bell with 25 points while Earnest Ross had 16 off the bench.

Missed free throws by the Tigers allowed Arkansas new life at the end of regulation. Young then converted a three-point play with 19 seconds left to give Arkansas a 72-71 lead. Missouri then turned the ball over in the final six seconds, resulting in 1-of-2 free throws made by Young.

Jabari Brown missed a 3-pointer from the right wing at the buzzer.

“BJ stepped up and showcased what he can do,” Anderson said. “He wanted to attack the basket at the end. BJ did a good job of making shots and hitting big free throws. That’s what he does – he makes shots for us.”

Missouri coach Frank Haith opened his press conference by stating "Don't ask me about the officiating. I don't want to get in trouble today".

Missouri outrebounded Arkansas 45-28 but committed 17 turnovers.

Arkansas will host Georgia on Thursday.
