As part of Severe Weather Awareness week in Arkansas, Benton County Emergency Management officials will host a storm spotter training class Thursday, Feb. 21.

The class will be held in Bentonville at the Northwest Arkansas Community College Shewmaker Center Walmart Auditorium. It’s free and open to the public.

The goal of the training is not just to recognize tornadoes but to have some understanding of storm structure, which in turn better prepares the spotter for the extreme and unusual circumstances, according to Robert McGowen, Benton County Emergency Management Director.

They will also discuss the latest National Weather Service technology and procedures, ideas for organizing spotter group, and important safety considerations.

5NEWS and the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center have teamed up to present a Storm Awareness program on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m as part of Severe Weather Week in Arkansas. Click here for more details.
