The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Winter Storm Warning until Noon Thursday for Benton, Carroll, Washington, Madison, Crawford, and Franklin Counties.

The NWS says the storm will bring in snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The new warning replaces a winter storm watch that was already in effect.

The approaching storm is expected to bring in a mix of snow and sleet during the afternoon.

The National Weather Service warns 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet accumulation are likely in high terrains. One quarter to one half inch of ice is also expected after midnight Wednesday in Northwest Arkansas.

The NWS is also reporting power outages will be likely due to gusty winds and ice.
According to 5NEWS Meteorologist Joe Pennington, the area is expected to arrive in two parts. Wednesday afternoon rain will mix with snow. Wednesday evening freezing rain is expected to develop.

Then Thursday travel will see the most impact in the morning. From Midnight Wednesday - 6 a.m. Thursday, heavy freezing rain will be possible across the Ozarks and some parts of the River Valley.

5NEWS Meteorologists Garrett Lewis, Joe Pennington, and Tyler Southard will be tracking the storm throughout the day Wednesday.
