Arkansas Pounds Evansville, Completes Sweep

Razorbacks scored 25 runs in three game series against Purple Aces

Arkansas finished an eight-game home stand with style.

The Razorbacks plated 10 runs and completed a three game sweep of Evansville with a 10-4 win Sunday at Baum Stadium.

Arkansas won seven of its first eight games to start the season but now must go on the road for the first true test of the season. Arkansas will face Arizona State twice this week in Surprise, Arizona. The Hogs will also see Gonzaga and Pacific during the four-game weekend.

The Hogs scored 25 runs over the weekend and got production from up and down their lineup. Brian Anderson, Tyler Spoon and Jake Wise all had big weekends for Arkansas but coach Dave Van Horn said it was his pitching staff that stole the show.

“I thought their team offensively played a little better than they showed,” Van Horn said. “I thought we pitched really well this weekend. We had a couple wild stints there but other than that we did a nice job of moving the ball around and pitching backwards and getting ahead of hitters. I'm happy with where those guys are at right now.”

Arkansas has a 1.54 team ERA through the first eight games while the Hogs are hitting .312 as a team. Six different Razorbacks are hitting .350 or better to start the season.
