A Fayetteville man faces two felony charges after he told police he punched his girlfriend in the arm because she drove home intoxicated.

Christopher Beegle, 31, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Sunday morning and released in the afternoon on $5,000 bond, according to the Sheriff’s Department website. Beegle has a March 27 court date and faces charges of aggravated assault and third-degree domestic battery, the website said.

A preliminary police report said officers responded to a disturbance call at approximately 2:36 a.m. at an apartment on North Tanzanite Trail. A man, identified as Beegle, told officers he had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, Kristin Marie Williams, because she had arrived home at about 2 a.m. and had driven while intoxicated, the report said.

Beegle told officers he “closed-fist punched” Williams in the arm, and the officer said he saw bruising on Williams’ left forearm, the report said. Williams told officers Beegle squeezed her throat with both hands until she screamed “I can’t breathe,” the report said.

The officer wrote in the report that he saw fingernail marks on the left side of her neck and defensive wounds on his face. The report said Beegle also attempted to prevent Williams from calling 911.

The Sheriff’s website said Beegle faces a misdemeanor charge of interference with emergency communications.
