The Bentonville School District has designated bus drivers who will inspect problematic roads that often get slick.

Mary Ley, communications director, said bus director Chris Dewitt plans to get up at 2 a.m. to check the roads along with the other drivers.

Once the routes are complete, Ley said, the bus director reports to Superintendent Michael Poore. However, since he’s out of town, DeWitt will report to Dr. Sterling Ming, finance director.

“If we are confident that students will be safe, we’ll have school,” Ley said.

Ley said the district uses every media outlet available to inform of any school closings.

“If there is school, we don’t make a comment, we don’t call or do anything. It’s like business as usual,” Ley said.

“If there’s inclement weather that we feel it’s problematic then we do contact parents via text who have signed for the text weather service, then we also put on our website and Facebook as fast as we can,” Ley said.

If parents haven’t signed up for that text message weather alert, they can sign up by logging into the Student Profile.

The video below shows Monday evening (Feb 25) weather condition’s and school policy for inclement weather.
