The professor-carry bill by Rep. Charlie Collins, R-Fayetteville, cleared the Senate Friday on a 31-4 vote and now goes to Gov. Mike Beebe for his expected signature.

HB1243 allows licensed university and college professors and staff members to carry concealed handguns on campus.

The governing board of each campus has the ability under the bill to vote annually whether to opt-out and not allow faculty and staff to carry firearms.

Gov. Mike Beebe probably will sign the bill, said his spokesman, Matt DeCample.
