A Springdale man is behind bars after police say he stabbed a man and assaulted two women over the weekend.
Robert Matthews, 26, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated residential burglary, aggravated assault and terroristic threatening. He remained Tuesday night in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Police said Matthews kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment at Valley Lake Apartments in Fayetteville on Sunday. The suspect then confronted a man in his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom while the man was undressed and wrestled with him, police said.
After a brief fight, Matthews fled to the kitchen, where he retrieved a large knife. He then stabbed the man in the arm with the knife, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
While in the apartment, Matthews punched his ex-girlfriend several times in the face and head, later also punching the woman’s roommate, according to the preliminary report. Matthews then left the scene, the woman told police.
Police arrived on the scene after Matthews had left and noticed a pool of blood and a blood trail leading from the apartment to the sidewalk, where the alleged stabbing victim had gone to find help, the report states. The alleged victim received stitches for his injury, police said.
Matthews later turned himself in at the Fayetteville Police Department, where he was arrested, according to the preliminary report.
