Lane Matthew Jester, 43, was arrested on a charge of first degree battery Wednesday (Feb. 27) in Fort Smith after police say they found a woman severely injured and covered in blood.

Police used a cell phone to track Jester to an address in the 1800 block North “D” Street. Officers set up surveillance and Jester was arrested after a brief foot pursuit, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs.  He says Jester tried to make another escape while police were walking him to the jail.

On Tuesday, officers responded to an apartment on South 11th Street just after 10 p.m. The 45-year-old woman suffered multiple head injuries and a broken arm, according to a police report. The woman is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Police believe Jester and a friend went to the woman’s apartment after drinking at a local bar. Jester gave the friend, who is also the woman’s ex-boyfriend, money to go buy marijuana, but the man never returned according to police.

The victim told officers that Jester became very angry and started beating her.

In addition to the battery charge, which carries a $100,000 bond, Jester was also wanted on outstanding warrants for Parole Violation, Burglary, Breaking or Entering, and Felony – Theft of Property out of Crawford County.
