A Springdale man was arrested Saturday (March 2) after police say he threatened his ex-wife with a gun.

Brian Currence is charged with domestic aggravated assault and refusal to submit to arrest.

Officers were called to a home on Ryan Street around 2 a.m., according to a police report. A caller reported her ex-husband was inside the home and had pointed a gun at her.

The woman told police she heard a gunshot in the garage. When officers arrived, Currence opened the garage door and appeared with a gun.

He was given several commands to drop the weapon but initially refused. Eventually he was taken into custody without incident, a police report states.

Witnesses told police while in the garage Currence put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun did not fire.

Currence told the woman to leave and began trying to figure out why the gun malfunctioned, according to investigators. That’s when it discharged into a refrigerator in the garage, police say.

Children were in the home at the time, according to police. No one was injured.
