Diamond Hogs Win on Walk-Off Home Run

Sophomore outfielder Joe Serrano hit a walk-off solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Arkansas a 4-3 win over San Diego State.

Hitting has come at a premium for the Arkansas Razorbacks lately, but Friday night it came at the perfect time.

Sophomore outfielder Joe Serrano hit a walk-off solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Arkansas a 4-3 win over San Diego State.

Serrano and Van Buren’s Tyler Spoon were the offensive stars of the game with each player finishing with two hits and a RBI. Spoon had the game-tying single in the bottom of the seventh, while Serrano drove in the game-winning run with his walk-off home run. Spoon extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his two hits. Jacob Mahan, Brett McAfee, Willie Schwanke and Jake Wise each added a hit in the game.

Arkansas reliever Jalen Beeks (2-0) earned the win on the mound. Beeks entered with in the seventh with Arkansas trailing 3-2 and the bases loaded for San Diego State. He proceeded to get back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam and keep Arkansas only a run behind. Beeks finished the game by striking out three and giving up just one hit in 2.2 scoreless innings.

The Razorbacks improve to 9-5 with the win.

Games three and four of the series with both be played Saturday because of potential bad weather. Game three starts at 11:35am, with game four following shortly after.
