The Fayetteville City Council is set to hold a special meeting Tuesday night on the planned multimillion-dollar parking deck in Fayetteville’s entertainment district.

The regularly scheduled council meeting is at 4:30 p.m. The parking-deck meeting is scheduled to begin after that.

Both meetings are open to the public.

This will be the public’s first opportunity to voice their opinion on the project.

When city officials in late 2012 were discussing potential locations and costs, the figure was between $6.2 million and $6.6 million. But now, the city’s Construction Management Services department says the project will cost a guaranteed maximum of $5.5 million.

The number of spaces has also been pared down. Originally conceived to hold anywhere from 250 to 300 parking spaces on three or four levels, the new details show a 246-space, three-level parking deck, according to Construction Management Services.

The project is still in the design phase.

Construction could start as soon as this fall and should take about one year to complete.
