A former Fayetteville roofer who scammed his customers out of tens of thousands of dollars in home repairs was ordered Tuesday to pay more than $137,000 to the state and ripped-off customers, according to the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office.
Shawn Redmond, former owner of Razorfast Roofing, was ordered to pay $28,136 in restitution to 19 Northwest Arkansas homeowners who paid Redmond, but did not have any repairs done to their homes, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced Tuesday. A Pulaski County judge also ordered Redmond to pay $109,144 in fines and costs to the state.
The judgment stems from a lawsuit McDaniel filed against Redmond, alleging the former roofer violated the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the Arkansas Home Solicitation Sales Act.
Redmond pleaded guilty last August in Benton County to taking money from customers without performing the work. He received a sentence of 10 years probation and was required to pay more than $36,000 in restitution to the victims.
Redmond had previously pleaded guilty to similar charges in Washington County, where he was ordered to pay more than $80,000 in restitution to former customers.
If Redmond fails to make restitution payments, he could be sentenced to 140 years in prison for the Benton County charges, prosecutor Ben Poole said after Redmond pleaded guilty in Benton County.
