A Spiro woman who was found stabbed outside her burning home in January died from her injuries Thursday (March 14). Her common-law husband is being held in jail, according to the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.

Myrtle Cooper, 47, died in a Tulsa hospital, according to Undersheriff Kendall Morgan. Her body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine an exact cause of death.

Cooper’s common-law husband, Elic Cusick, 39, is being held on charges kidnapping and assault and battery with a deadly weapon which carrying a $150,000 bond.

But Morgan could now face a murder charge depending on the outcome of the medical examiner’s report.

Crews responded to the house fire on Stewart Loop at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. Cusick and Cooper were found unconscious in the front yard. A neighbor said Cooper was naked.

Cooper suffered several stab wounds and burns over half of her body, according to deputies.
