Police have arrested a Springdale man in connection with a shooting last weekend that sent the victim to the hospital with a bullet to the knee.

Marcos Mendoza, 33, was arrested Thursday (March 14) on suspicion of attempted murder. Mendoza allegedly tried to kill Antonio Jimenez, 29, last Saturday (March 9) because of allegations of infidelity, according to the Springdale Police Department.

Mendoza and Jimenez both lived at the same house on Garnett Street, along with Mendoza’s wife.

Mendoza is accused of shooting Jimenez in the leg before putting the gun to the alleged victim’s head and telling him he was going to kill him. Jimenez knocked the gun away as it discharged, then fled the house and into his car, police said.

Jimenez was later hospitalized at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

A 911 call was placed at 1:26 a.m. after the caller said a woman had come to her house and asked her to report a shooting. Police responded to the address and found Jimenez sitting in a car in front of the mobile home with a gunshot wound and a laceration.

According to police, Jimenez drove there after the incident occurred to get his co-worker to take him to the hospital.

Jimenez told 5NEWS he was attacked, punched at least twice in the face, shot in the leg and his wallet was stolen. He told the police he was in a car at the intersection of Dodd and Scottsdale when he was attacked.

Jimenez told 5NEWS that the pain and shock of the shooting has clouded his memory of the incident.

“The doctors haven’t been able to remove the bullet from my knee,” Jimenez said. “I’m in a lot of pain.”

Rocio Hernandez lives on the street where the shooting happened.

“It’s surprising because I was here and I have my daughters,” said Hernandez.

During the course of the initial investigation, police went to the home on Garnett Road and found blood in the driveway, according to police. Blood and broken glass was found in the residence, police said. Officers determined the incident happened inside the home and said it appears more than one gunshot was fired.
