"It's one of those things where it's very, very sad and disappointing with the condition of the building and what it experienced," Partner Scott Blair said. "But we're very excited when we sit and look at the new plans and just can't wait."
Construction crews have been working at Calico County for the last two days, peeling back the existing roof. Blair says that's the first step in the reconstruction process.
"We're very excited because the main thing we want to do is just get back reopened," Blair said. "There was a lot of work to be done and plans to be drawn. But we've been anxiously waiting now for a month or more for approval."
Blair says he knows the staff can't wait, and loyal customers say they're excited to see the construction as well.
"I miss eating there because it was just so convenient going from class to right across the street to get food," customer Terry McGinister said.
"Oh I'm very excited because I'm due in June and obviously I love to eat," Charla Gann, another customer, said. "They have the best food around here."
Calico County's partners say they don't have an exact date for when the restaurant will open again, but are shooting for sometime before the end of July.
