Mercy of Northwest Arkansas unveiled “The Spirit of Mercy” Medflight Helicopter Friday afternoon in Rogers.

Mercy President & CEO Scott Street and doctors were on hand to outline the benefits the new EC130 helicopter will have on heart care in Northwest Arkansas.

It's the only hospital-based medical helicopter in Northwest Arkansas, according to officials.

Cardiologists at Mercy NWA say the bottom line is saving lives and Mercy Medflight will help them do that.

"Once the artery closes we've got about three hours to get that artery open and keep that heart muscle normal," Dr. Larry Weathers said. Weathers has been serving heart patients in Arkansas for more than three decades.

Most people with heart problems don't find out about them until it's too late.

"Half the people in this country find out they have heart disease by either having a heart attack or sudden death," he said. "So what we would like to do is eliminate the sudden death. We can treat the heart attack if we can get you here."
