A Fayetteville man faces a felony charge of terroristic threatening and a slew of misdemeanor charges after police said he threatened his neighbors after an argument with a woman.

Melvin Sims, 23, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center on Saturday evening (March 16) and has a bond of $2,000 for his misdemeanor charges but one is not listed for his felony charge, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.

A preliminary police report said officers responded to a report of a disturbance on the 4500 block of Renee Court at approximately 1:25 p.m. A woman said a couple was arguing and the man had driven recklessly when he left, the report said.

Officers said while they were speaking with the neighbor, they noticed a car matching the description of the car the man was driving approach the driveway and pull in, the report said. The man, identified as Sims, got out of the car and yelled at the neighbor to “mind your own [expletive] business,” the report said.

The man continued to curse the neighbor and her daughter when an officer said he was under arrest for disorderly conduct, the report said. The report said Sims refused to comply until officers said they would use a taser on him, and then he refused to cooperate when he was searched, the report said.

Officers said they placed him on the hood of a patrol car when Sims said, ‘You’re lucky I’m in handcuffs,” which the officer took as a threat of physical harm if Sims had the opportunity, the report said. Sims also said “[expletive] Story and [expletive] you, too,” in an reference to Washington County Circuit Judge William Storey, the report said.

After being placed in the back seat of the patrol car, Sims removed his seatbelt and then began kicking the rear driver’s side window until it and the cage were dislodged, the report said. Officers said Sims yelled through the broken window at the neighbor “This is how people get killed, by not minding their own [expletive] business,” the report said.

The neighbor told officers that her daughter and three young children were playing in the yard when left his residence and he said he was going to shoot them, the report said.

In addition to the felony charge of terroristic threatening, Sims faces misdemeanor charges that include three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, disorderly conduct, assault and criminal mischief, the report said.
