A man died and multiple people were injured Thursday night in a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger car in LeFlore County, Okla.

A man died and multiple people were injured Thursday night in a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger car in LeFlore County, Okla.

"Witnesses states that the pickup attempted to pass in a no passing zone and crossed the center line and struck the PT Cruiser head-on," said LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale, who responded to the accident.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the fatal crash just south of Cameron, Okla., on Oklahoma Highway 112, shortly after 9 p.m., according to a crash report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Manuel Medina, 30, was killed when the passenger car he was traveling in was struck head-on by a pickup truck that had crossed the center line, the crash report states. Eric Potter, the driver of the truck, was transported to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith. He was listed in critical condition early Friday morning.

Six others involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Amanda Norman, 28, and Uriah Potter, 9, were rushed to the hospital with arm and leg injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The two were riding in the truck with Potter at the time of the collision, according to the crash report.

Noe Hernandez, 27, was driving the passenger car and suffered head, arm and leg injuries, the crash report states. Gaspa Lopez Cruz, 21, Silvado Garcia, 35, and Ramiro Lopez Ruiz, 35, also suffered head, arm and leg injuries. All were hospitalized at Mercy, according to the report.

Russell Johnson, who owns the Smart Mart on Highway 112 near where the accident occurred, said as soon as he heard the loud noise caused by the collision, he knew the accident would be serious.

"I didn't hear any skid marks or locking breaks prior to the impact. It was just crunching metal," said Johnson.

Johnson said the accident caused delays on the busy highway with "traffic backed up as far as you could see in both directions."
