Two University of Arkansas students were hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe Tuesday (March 26) while walking through a crosswalk on the campus near West Maple Street and North Lindell Avenue on Tuesday (March 26), campus police said
Both students, a male and a female, were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was unknown Tuesday afternoon, but police said the injuries appeared to be nonlife-threatening because both students were conscious and talking after the incident. Campus police did not release their names Tuesday.
The driver, Wallace Robert Richardson, 29, of Roland, received two traffic citations, one accusing him of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and the other accusing him of having an obstructed windshield, according to campus police.
Police said the driver's vision was temporarily obscured by the sun.
A call alerting campus police to the incident came in at 7:56 a.m., amid rush hour traffic before 8 a.m. classes, police said.
The driver of the SUV was also a student, said Steve Voorhies, university spokesman.
