Two Bentonville elementary schools were temporarily locked down Thursday afternoon after a man walked by the schools with a gun case, according to the Bentonville School District.
A school bus driver noticed a man walking near Sugar Creek and Thomas Jefferson elementary schools and notified school officials, who called police, said Mary Ley, a spokeswoman for the school district.
The schools were locked down shortly after 3 p.m., and officers responded to the scene. They found a man with a walking stick in a rifle case near the schools, Ley said. The schools were taken off of lockdown at about 3:30 p.m.
