Aaron Lee Garner, 26, has turned himself into Fort Smith police. He was wanted for allegedly scamming women in Fort Smith parking lots.

He was booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center on six counts of misdemeanor theft by deception.

Several cases where Garner approaches women claiming to have noticed mechanical problems with their vehicles have been reported, according to Fort Smith police.

Garner offers to help the victims, but claims he must go get parts to fix the problem, a police report states. When Garner returns, he “fixes” the vehicles and then asks for money to reimburse him for the parts and labor, police say.

None of the victims reported having any mechanical problems prior to contact with Garner.

Authorities developed Garner as a suspect after giving his name to at least two victims who wrote him a check.

He’s wanted on six counts of misdemeanor theft by deception, according to police.

If you have been a victim of this crime, call the Fort Smith Police Department at (479) 709-5000.
