The University of Arkansas Fort Smith now has a library to fit the growing campus' needs.

The Boreham Library had a formal reopening Wednesday (April 3) to celebrate the completion of the expansion project.

The original library was built in 1987 for a community college of about 4,000 students.

Now the ever-growing university is home to more than 7,000 students.

A 40,000 square foot learning and research center was added to the library, along with many renovations to the original structure. It has extra study rooms and a 24-hour lounge.

"Libraries are the intellectual center of any university or college, and I just wanted to make sure the University of Arkansas Fort Smith had a credible library facility for students, so we could maximize our ability to give them opportunity they didn't have before," said Dr. Paul B. Beran, Chancellor.

Funding for the $14.2 Million project was provided by grants, government funding, bonds and student fees. The project was completed over Spring Break.
