One hundreds and fifty pound robots were throwing frisbees in Barnhill Arena at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

The first Razorback Regional FIRST Robotics Competition brought teens from 38 high school teams from seven surrounding states.

The competition is dubbed "the Superbowl of Smarts." It showcases robots designed and built in just six weeks.

The robots scoop up and toss flying discs to score points.

Professional engineers and technical mentors help students during the competition.

"These students are able to do what engineers do every day," said Chase Rainwater, assistant professor of industrial engineering. "Basically every night of the week for six weeks after work these mentors dedicate their time to work with these students to show them what it's like to be an engineer to help them solve these problems."

The competition is hosted by the University of Arkansas College of Engineering.

The top six teams earn a spot in the World Championship on April 24 in St. Louis.
