Authorities were called to Parkview Elementary In Van Buren Monday morning (April 8) following a bomb threat.

A text alert sent to parents just before noon notifying them that the campus was briefly evacuated.

Authorities swept the building and deemed the threat was not credible, according to school officials. Students and faculty have since returned to class and will complete the school day, the text read.

It’s just one of the many threats of violence reported in River Valley school districts this year.

Cedarville Police investigated a report of a bomb threat on April 2. No threat was found, according to police. Students were kept in the elementary school’s gyms for two hours.

A bomb threat was reported on March 25 at Northridge Middle School in Van Buren. Before Spring Break, Van Buren High School was evacuated on March 13 due to a bomb threat found on a note in one of the bathrooms, authorities said. Police and bomb-sniffing K9 units were called out but did not find a threat.

The following day, a similar threat was made at Alma High School. At least one student, 18-year-old Kevin Ray Newton was arrested in connection with that threat.

During the same week, Greenwood Police took a 10-year-old student into custody after he allegedly threatened to bring a bomb to Westwood Elementary School on March 15.
