Ever since their first tournament in September the Arkansas women's golf team has been getting progressively better. They began the season ranked 30th in the nation and now with a little less then two months until the national tournament they are ranked fifth.
"From August until now we laid some lofty goals down," said Head Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. "My philosophy as a coach is to take it one day at a time, make it a process and get them focused on getting better each and everyday."
The team has finished in the top five in all eight tournaments they have competed in this year. They finished first at the LSU Golf Classic and finished second in two other tournaments.
There is no doubt the team has the physical talent to win, but it's a non-physical element that makes them so successful.
"Everybody gets along so well, we have so much chemistry," said junior Emily Tubert. "Everyone is super talented and works really hard. We work hard and push each other. I think we will do what we need to to do in order to win."
The program has never won an SEC championship. The team will head to Birmingham, Alabama next Wednesday for the SEC Tournament. The team believes they have what it take to finally bring home an SEC title.
"We have such a great team," said junior Emma Lavy. "We all work so hard. It is our goal to win an SEC title and I think everyone knows that's what we are working for. Everyday when we wake up we work towards it. We have the talent and the heart. I think we are ready for it."
The SEC is one of the strongest golf conferences in the country so the girls are going to have to bring their best in order to win it all.
