Storms swept through Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday, leaving behind rain, hail and some property damage.
A cold front blew into the region, bringing warm conditions earlier this week before rain clouds and cold temperatures surfaced Wednesday. The wind and rain caused thousands of power outages. At the peak of the dime-sized hail falling on the area, more than 4,500 local households were without power, mostly in Washington County.
Power has since been restored to almost all affected homes, according to Southwest Electric Power Company and Ozarks Electric.
Slick roads and pouring rains caused several car crashes along Interstate 540, but no major injuries were reported. A motorist lost control and drove into a pole at Sycamore Street and Leverett Avenue in Fayetteville, causing property damage, according to police.
The weather may have caused a house on New Hope Road in Rogers to catch fire, although authorities are still investigating. There were no injuries, and the house sustained minor damage from the fire that began in a bedroom closet, according to the Rogers Fire Department.
