LSU Takes Series Opener, 6-2

Arkansas miscues, LSU starter Nola too much to overcome as Tigers win opener.

Arkansas may have had the best team ERA in the SEC entering Friday’s series opener with LSU but Aaron Nola looking like one of the league’s best pitchers.

The Tigers starter struck out 10 and allowed just four hits in a complete game effort as LSU posted a 6-2 win at Baum Stadium.

The Razorbacks (24-11, 8-5) continued to struggle in the field as they committed four more errors, running their total to 15 in the last four games. LSU has committed just two errors in 13 SEC games.

The two enterted the fifth inning scoreless but Sean McMullen gave LSU the lead with a three-run home run. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the sixth thanks to an Arkansas error and a hit batter.

Eric Fisher provided the offense for Arkansas as he hit a two-run home run in the seventh, closing the gap to 5-2 at the time.

Barrett Astin got the loss for Arkansas after he threw 5.2 innings while allowing five runs, three of which were earned, and striking out five.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 6:05 Saturday evening.
