Cappelen has Eye on NCAA Golf Title

Junior Sebastian Cappelen is the 2nd Razorback in school history to win the SEC Individual Golf Title.

University of Arkansas Junior Golfer Sebastian Cappelen won the 2013 SEC Individual Golf Championship Title last weekend at Seaside Golf Course on the Island of St. Simmons.  Cappelen’s victory is just the second by a Razorback and the first since Bud Still won the individual title in 1995.

"Obviously it's a big thing for the school," said Cappelen. "Golf has become such a big sport in the last decade or two.  Giving this to the school means a lot to me"

Sebastian had an exceptional SEC tournament.  He shot four under par in the final round. His 54 hole total of 202 was four strokes better than any other Razorback performance at an SEC tournament in program history.

"It was probably some of the most impressive golf I've seen in a really long time," said Assistant Coach Barrett Lais. "He only had two bogies the entire week.  It was very very impressive."

On top of winning an SEC championship, this past Monday Cappelen was named to the 2013 Palmer Cup team.  This was his third straight selection.

"There aren't many people that have a chance to play in one Palmer Cup let alone three in a row," said Lais. "Its something special."

"Just being able to play there is an honor," said Cappelen.  "Win or lose it's still a huge thing."

Cappelen will start his journey to a National Championship at the NCAA Regional Tournament beginning May 16th.  The University of Arkansas will host the regional tournament at their home course of Blessings.
