A Siloam Springs man faces four felony charges and numerous misdemeanor ones after a high-speed chase in Springdale that police said reached speeds of 100 mph.

Jamaal Simpson, 32, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center on Sunday morning and has a bond of $7,500, according to the Sheriff’s Department website. Simpson faces felony charges of aggravated assault, third-degree battery, fleeing and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

A preliminary police report said a woman called 911 from a car at approximately 2:19 a.m. and said a man had struck her in the face. Police located the car traveling west toward Tontitown on Highway 412 and, when the car reached the intersection of 412 and Highway 112, the vehicle turned back toward Springdale, the report said.

The chase reached speeds of 100 mph, the report said, before the vehicle crashed at a gas station on West Sunset Avenue, the report said. The driver, identified as Simpson, fled on foot before being apprehended at a nearby fast food restaurant, the report said.

Officers said Simpson had to be subdued with a Taser before being taken into custody, the report said.

The report said the women who made the initial complaint was still in the car and officers observed injuries to both sides of her face. Officers believed the injuries on the left side of her face were from being struck by Simpson, while the right side injuries resulted from the car accident, the report said.

The woman told officers Simpson punched her in the face four times because she refused to let him look at her phone because Simpson believed she was having an affair with his brother, the report said. Both the woman and Simpson were taken to Northwest Medical Center, the report said.

Officers said Simpson was tased again at the hospital after he spit on a Springdale police officer and was being disruptive, the report said.

Simpson’s misdemeanor charges include driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, violation of implied consent and two counts of resisting arrest.
