It was a big day for kids, families and senior citizens of Mansfield.

Mansfield Public Schools and Mercy Clinic held a construction kickoff for a new school-based clinic with a hard hat tour of work getting underway and an update on plans for the facility Monday (May 5).

The 9,100 square foot space will offer medical, dental, vision and mental health services to students and the community. It will also have space for occupational and physical therapy.

Mansfield’s Superintendent, Robert Moss, is excited that the clinic will offer students and the community physical health services.

“It's good for our kids, it's good for our parents, it's good for our senior citizens and our staff at Mansfield schools, so everybody's a winner” said Moss.

The Mercy Clinic space will be 2,700 square feet with five exam rooms. In addition, Vista Health will occupy 900 square feet and provide full-time mental health services for students. An optometrist, Dr. Adam Schluterman and a dentist, Dr. Cody Friddle will provide part-time vision and dental services for students.

Construction is being funded by a $500,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. Moss also noted that the wellness clinic is modeled after the Lavaca schools clinic which has been successful in that community.
