A 33-year-old is facing charges after police say he tried to convince Fort Smith police dispatchers there was an ‘officer down,’ on at least two occasions.
Marshall Dewayne Donovan is charged with communicating a false alarm. Donovan is suspected of making 911 calls on Sept. 17 of last year and Feb. 27 and claiming an off-duty or undercover officer had been shot or stabbed. But when officers responded to the locations given, they didn’t find an injured officer.
Witnesses told police Donovan, who was wanted on several outstanding warrants, made the false claims to lure officers away from his location.
Donovan was already being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center on the outstanding warrants when detectives served the warrant Monday (May 6).
