Van Buren Police are searching for a suspect accused of crashing a stolen vehicle into a ditch.

Authorities were called around 3 a.m. Tuesday (May 6) after a report of a badly damaged Gold-colored Dodge Durango on its side in a ditch at Lovers Lane and Rena Road.

Van Buren Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Police said the vehicle had hit a mailbox before crashing into the ditch.

"This morning, I don`t know, when I woke up around 6 o`clock, my son was going to work, he told me that somebody hit our mailbox already," said Don Nouansavane. "So, i just opened the door."

The suspected car thief took off from the scene, according to Van Buren Police. Police took samples of blood and hair from the vehicle to send to the state crime lab to be analyzed as evidence.
