Hogs Hammered In Series Opener

Tennessee gets more runs, hits than any other team against Arkansas in Friday’s win.

Arkansas had crept back into the conversation of hosting a NCAA regional.

But Friday’s 8-3 loss to Tennessee might be a major setback.

The Volunteers scored more runs and pounded out more hits (13) than any team against Arkansas all season.

Arkansas (32-17, 15-9 SEC) managed just four hits, one of which was a two-run home run by Dominic Ficociello in the fourth inning.

Tennessee (20-26, 7-16) trailed 2-1 heading into the sixth inning but scored in each of the final four innings, including three in the 9th to blow the game open.

Barrett Astin got the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits on 5 2/3 innings of work while Brandon Moore allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings in relief. Tennessee’s Zack Godley picked up the win as he finished his fifth complete game of the season.

Ethan Bennett did most of the damage for the Vols as he drove in five runs and went 3-of-5 at the plate.
